Restaurant Canopies Project – Ate O’Clock Restaurant & Bistro, York
This was a fascinating project for a popular local restaurant located at the end of a narrow passageway. The area was originally used for additional seating in fine weather only, however business growth was hampered by not being able to guarantee the use of the outside area. This reduced overall capacity and obviously complicated accepting advanced reservations.
The brief was to enclose the side alley in order to create a fully weatherproof dining space. The challenge was to do so between somewhat irregular shaped buildings. Loca Shading Designs recommended a fully retractable roof system created using three different roof sizes. Additional elegant glass panels make up the difference on both sides as well as increasing natural light. The end result offers complete coverage in wet or cold weather, with the ability to easily open the roof on warmer days to enjoy al fresco dining.
